A Lorimer Dressing Table Mirror

Product Enquiry

A really lovely mahogany dressing table mirror in the  Queen Anne style designed by Sir Robert Lorimer and made by the Edinburgh firm of cabinet makers Whytock & Reid. The mahogany has faded to beautiful light colour and there is a small repair to the fall flap where a candle fell – all part of its wonderful history! There is pleasure to be found in the details of the moulding round the mirror plate, the finials to the uprights and the shaped bracket feet.

A similar mirror is illustrated in The Work of Sir Robert Lorimer by Christopher Hussey (Country Life 1931) pl.228 and in Lorimer and the Arts and Crafts Designers by Peter Savage (Harris 1980) pls. 142 & 143 and  the letter to his friend Dodds which included a sketch of a mirror P72 pl. 66.
