Description
A rare early oak chest of drawers by Sir Robert Lorimer. This chest is one of the earliest pieces ever made by Lorimer and was part of a wedding gift to to his sister Janet on the occasion of her marriage to Sir David Chalmers in 1892. It is also unusual in that it is made by a combination of Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh who made the marquetry panel and Wheeler of Arncroach made the rest.
Similar pieces are illustrated in Savage’s book Lorimer and the Arts and Crafts Designers and a similar panel can be seen in the National Museum of Scotland.
